Focus on NARA in First Week of Interim Archivist Debra Wall’s Tenure

By Kamala Lopez

Urgent: this week U.S. Archivist David S. Ferriero will be retiring and that means we must all flood the switchboards at NARA in a last effort to demand the ERA be published!
Call David S. Ferriero’s office: 202-357-5900

Painfully ironic photo of U.S. Archivist of the United States David Ferriero attending the Rightfully Hers Grand Opening at the National Archives Museum on May 08, 2019 in Washington, DC with U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Archives Curator Corinne Porter.

Isn’t equality “Rightfully Hers,” Mr. Ferriero?

You, yourself, said that you would publish ERA
if we got three-fourths of the states.
Well, we’re at 38; you’re leaving, and it ain’t done.
Please do the right thing and publish ERA now.

Please call the U.S. Archivist David S. Ferriero’s office: 202-357-5900
Example of what to ask of David Ferriero, should you speak with him, or the kind of message to leave:

“David, you are retiring this week and your legacy will be to either leave the National Archives as the U.S. Archivist who enshrined women’s equality in the Constitution by publishing the ERA or the U.S. Archivist who blocked equality for women.
How do you want to be remembered?

You published the 27th amendment despite a similar OLC letter attempting to stop you — why won’t you use your same discretion to publish the 28th amendment?  Why are you going against your own letter, sent to us in 2012, saying you would publish if we got to 38 states? Why are you treating women differently, and worse, than other groups of Americans?”

You know that your publication of ERA would be a powerful tool for women to fight back against discrimination, bias and harm in our courts and in our society at large.
You might continue:  “David, do you really want to support and enable all the attacks on established women’s rights that are coming at us, fast and furious, and that will only persist and increase without the Constitution on our side?

So, are you going to leave us high and dry, David, after the years of “feminist” lip service?

Please watch this video, David, to learn why American women need ERA NOW:

Women have fought for hundreds of years to simply be treated like full human beings under our laws; you could be a major part in making that a reality, David. But will you be?

Please make the right choice and publish the ERA before you leave your post.”

And to Team EME members, thanks, as always, for your strong, courageous and consistent support.  We greatly appreciate you. Keep up the fight, equality warriors!  We will win this.

With love and gratitude,
Natalie, Kamala and the EME team
